MG Acguy

Thursday, May 12, 2011 Onderon 0 comments
I purchased this baby over a year ago during the first gunpla building get together I went to which was at COFA and have always been meaning to do something nice with it and since I was in the mood I decided to brush off the dust and get my arse into gear.

From MG Ball

This was the only photo I have of it before I started working on it but I'm sure everyone knows what it looks like

The goal for this project was to achieve a semi decent marbling effect and since I've never tried it b4 I found some spare parts and dabbed on some silver paint with a paintbrush and thanks to my every impressive laziness I opted to brush on a clear color instead of using the airbrush
From Gunpla

Big mistake. The brush strokes literally melted the silver paint so it became blurry but that a side I was confident with what I had to do so I busted out the airbrush and sprayed on a layer of Alclad Gloss Black - which I also forgot to take photos of.

Interesting note. The gloss black was more transparent compared to Tamiya paints so it would require multiple coats to achieve a solid look but since the Acguy was brown to begin with it didn't make much difference and Alclad Gloss Black is super cheap.

After that was to apply the patterns. At first I was planning on varying the tones by using silver and interlacing with white but since I wanted a dark shade of blue as the clear coat I figured the white would become redundant.
From Gunpla

I opted to use a soft bristle brush since it was the less messy.
From Gunpla

N.b. the paint used was Tamiya Chrome Silver and its touch dried in like 5 minutes.
ATTENTION! For all those who attempt the next part remember to lay down a coat of clear coat to protect the patterns incase you screw up the color coat like I did.

Better lighting. Sunlight is the best when it comes to photography =)

Notice how the patterns are pretty uniform due to using a brush. I assume using a sponge will yield more realistic patterns.

Managed to do the clear blue today after uni but made a mistake with thinning the paint on my 2nd cup hence half the parts had to be stripped down to remove all the acrylic - Glass cleaner works wonders here. It's like waxing legs minus the pain.

Hopefully I'll remember to mix the paint properly tomorrow

Every UC timeline series in gundam that I know of have some squid or octopus looking mobile armor and the Unicorn series is no different.

Zeon forces have stolen the basic design and transformational technology from the ReZG or the refined zeta gundam and the outcome?

this^

Despite being a Zeon suit the Sinanju was particularly shaped with an absurd amount of thrusters and aerodynamic lines as well.

Sadly the Unicorn gundam does not have any special abilities besides fall apart at the slightest touch so it.

Looks better than Arios imo

Sangokuden Shiba I

My hands were itching for some gunpla today while bumming in the City with Chung so to prevent myself from getting into more financial problems with getting some over the top kit I satisfied myself with a small Sangokuden SD. I really love the stuff from this line as I find them really adorable and badass at the same time. Not my first and definitely wont be my last.

Shiba I or Si ma Yi in chinese is modelled after the Sazabi with a drastically different color scheme although you can get it in the original red plated color as well but that one looks like ass.

It;s a really small kit with only 3 runners and polycaps and a single sheet of foil stickers
From Onderon's gallery

Like all the Sangokuden kits it comes with a folded sheet with 1 side a continuous comic
From Onderon's gallery

and the manual on the other side
From Onderon's gallery

Because these kits need a lot of paint to look anywhere near decent I opted not to do a WIP until I decide to paint it so heres what it looks like OOB

Shiba I is now my 2nd fav Sangokuden after the bling Ryufo (Lu Bu)

And random bonus pics!!!

Close up of the chest orb
In the photo, it looks like that the light lights up the whole orb
However, it looks like that due to the slow shutter speed used on the camera. In reality, only the words light up.

Now heres some pics of exia posing with the lights on

Bandai has just opened its PG 00 raiser website

Exia Review Part III

Saturday, September 5, 2009 KOALA 0 comments
Ok, been a bit lazy, so havent bothered putting up pictures even though i have finished building the MG Exia
So, starting from where we left off last time.
Torso
45 pieces if you dont count the core
From Gunpla

gives you some simple forward and back roll, and also some side to side roll action

From Gunpla

From Gunpla

Front and Back

The hip
24 pieces including beam sabers
Similar to most of Bandais lastest MG releases, nothing really special about it. Though, the front skirt armour was a big improvement from the 1-100 HG. Bandai prolly stole the idea from Keta Damn that guy is a genius
From Gunpla

Arms
34 pieces each
Joints are stiff. One complaint i have for bandai is that the ball and socket joint holding the hand is really tight, where as the wrist joint is rather weak. While trying to pose the hands, the hand would often pop off at the wrist. I also question, why they did not bother giving the upper arm a inner frame? Bandai bothered putting in internal details for the shoulder armour, yet they simply decided to make the upper arm high grade like.
From Gunpla

Legs
32 pieces
Once again, simple, solid joints. On the end of each foot, is a toe joint, which seems pretty redundant, since it doesnt really do anything. The feet of this kit aren't really flat, so it is often hard to balance on surfaces. In previous MG kits, such as the Nu and Hi-Nu, bandai have taken extra care to include foot locks in the kits. Unfortunately, it seems like that Exia does not get the same amount of love.
From Gunpla

Equipment
Lets start off with the shield.
Only consists of 6 parts
Has a simple sliding mechanism.
The attachment unit to the Exia's forearm is unadjustable, so thats a few minus points for this kit
From Gunpla

From Gunpla

GN BLADES Long & Short
7 pieces each
Well, what can i say. To be honest, I was never really impressed by the chrome bling on these blades. However, after building them, i realised that they dont look that bad after all. However, i still prefer the standard gn blades instead.
From Gunpla

From Gunpla

Beam Sabers/Daggers
2 pieces each
What more can i say??
The most standard thing in all gunpla kits
From Gunpla

GN Sword / GN Sword R1
Well well, the last and probably the best of Exia's equipment. The GN Sword.
Each configuration uses 19 pieces, 15 of which are used in both.
From Gunpla
Sword mode
From Gunpla
Rifle Mode
From Gunpla

Ohwells, so i guess thats most of the parts out of the way
Now its just pics of exia
I didnt bother taking much. Will post more up once the LEDs arrive
From Gunpla

I've attmepted to recreated some of exia's poses.
However, within the anime, most of the time, the gundams are out of scale.
Hence, the model looks now where near as badass as the following screen shot
From Screen Captures

From Gunpla

From what i've seen, the R1 seems to look slightly more accurate. However, the cape does need some improvement.

So thats about it
Overall, the kit is decent, but i guess we were prolly execting too much out of it. One of the main highlights to mention about is the clear parts which was bandais solution to the ugly rubber used in the original designs.
LED's should come in on Monday, if Tofu remebers, so maybe a few new pictures then.
