Breeding with Ditto

Thursday, May 28, 2009 Onderon 1 comments
As many you should have realised by now that I have fallen into a trap called Pokemon...again but since its been so many years since I last played it i approached this game with a new perspective with a much more mature and and insightful view. When you breed a pokemon you can do it in various ways . 1. shack up a male and female of the same pokemon. 2. breed a female and male pokemon of the same egg type *this is called interracial 0_o* 3. breed a ditto with a pokemon of any gender capable of breeding ( it seems in the pokemon world entire species are infertile)

The point of interest is that the pokemon Ditto, who not only looks like a chewed up pink bubble gum but it can mimic form of any object or thing perfectly and in this case the pokemon I'm gonna breed. It was all fine and dandy until I realised something I wouldn't have paid much thought towards a few years ago...I bred a Ditto with a male pikachu.

Now we can be certain this game is not prejudice towards how people or pokemon swing but the question is where the frak did the egg come from?

Such magnificent observation can only be attributed to my growing wisdom and for attending STHS.

Pokemon - take it to the next level!

Sunday, May 24, 2009 Onderon 6 comments

As some of you may or may not know I have recently become addicted to pokemon again after so many years, the last being with Crystal version. Anyways the addiction got to me hard and just playing pokemon like I usually do was not enough. No, I needed to catch them all. The urge to become the ultimate pokemon trainer was too much to resist I'm even rewatching the pokemon series as I *obtain* them.

Yesterday morning as I was taking my morning shower I had some time to contemplate why there hasn't been a full 3d action adventure RPG of pokemon and what it would be like if I was to design it and heres what I basically had it mind:

The world of pokemon is a vast and dangerous land filled with creatures of various shape and size and ability and if this was to be brought to life on the next gen console I think it would be something like the overworld in Zelda TP and FF. A large central hub with trees, mountains, and lakes which lead to instanced areas such as towns and any dungeons and forest deemed too large to be connected with the hub without loading.

Traversing the world of pokemon can be done on foot or on bike and with the aid of tools such as scaling ropes and climbing instruments, diving gear it is possible to navigate through almost any situation the world can throw at you.

Catching pokemon is retained from the handheld games where you can only carry 6 at anytime with any changes made at a PC and fighting is where it gets interesting. Keeping with the 1v1 battles with wild pokemon which can appear as random battles like in FF games or like .Hack ( one of my favourite RPGs of all time) have enemies which spawn with your within a certain proximity so you can see where they are before hand and plan ahead. The latter allows for the game to have almost infinite 'spawning gates' without the annoyance of too many random battles and making the world feel more alive than just having mobs roam the map like in FF12 which can severly reduce the amount of creatures on at the one time.

Battles are done in real time and the environment is at your mercy to utilise. Meaning that fights will no longer be turn based but instead will be reminecent *ripped-off* of zeldas free combat. but the twist is that at the start of the battle you will have full control of the pokemon trainer but once you have chosen which of the 6 pokemon you want to fight, control is shifted to that pokemon with the trainer watching from behind. Of course for the the most accurate and intense portrayal of pokemon battles it is neccessary for the pokemon to be able to manuver in the battle such as running, jumping, climbing and dodging attacks. The handheld restricted each pokemon to only know 4 abilities but I think this is too limiting but instead they can incoporate systems of combat from games such as Folklore ( fantastic ps3 RPG) where a folk (ranging from cute to kickass looking creatures each having 1 specific function in battle) is mapped onto the 'shapes' buttons on the ps3 controller and in the case of pokemon moves and abilities can be mapped onto the c stick or direction pads ( which may also be used to control the pokenav or are hotkeys to the selection menu which you can use on the fly in battle. Folklore allowed the player to map any folk which they caputre onto the buttons at anytime so you must choose from your library of folk but in pokemon it is possible that this is adapted so that each pokemon has a database of moves which they have learnt and you change it from there. Of course this will require immense amount of data but at the rate of our gaming development it may well be possible sooner than you think. I have also thought about comboing moves but that will really gimp on the amount of skills avaliable in the game.

As i mentioned earlier that the battle field is in real time so there would be some unfair advantages for say flying pokemon in open areas but this keeps with the more realistic aspect of battle, you need a pokemon which can fight in the sky or know ranged attacks. How well fights involving aerial combat on this scale would play out but alot of games atm contain flying enemies which must be knocked down before going into melee.

My proposed idea for this game entails large amounts of data set aside for each pokemons character mesh and articulation as well as their move sets along with a vast and populated enough evironment to do the world of pokemon justice ( not just the fields but believably sized towns and npcs inhabiting them). If this game was to become a reality I would not be surprised if only the first 151 or not even and only a fraction but diverse enough variety of pokemon to be avaliable ingame.

All that in a short 20min wake up shower naturally I'm just incorporating ideas other games which I enjoyed so no doubt if they ever make an action RPG for pokemon it would be very different but if its similar you heard it from here first =P

The Real Truth about Pokemon

Sunday, May 17, 2009 KOALA 3 comments
Most of us would have been introduced to pokemon during our primary school, and most of you would have found it a to be the coolest show back then. The following article was written by a member on 4chan, and it would reveal to you some of the truths behind the story of pokemon. If the following clip from ep 38 doesn't screw up your mind, then perhaps this will.

Did one ever know the reason why the pacing and story development change after Ash was hit by lightning in the beginning episodes? How Ash and his world were relatively normal until after the incident? I have a theory. The accident with the bike put Ash in a coma. Days later he was found and was hurried to the hospital and treated with heavy medications. This is why Team Rocket became less menacing. The medication took effect and stabilized his coma dreams, instead of being terrifying, they became idyllic, and he's able to live out his Pokémon master fantasies.
If one had noticed, the early episodes of Pokémon were of amazing quality. The rest of the series is just the results of his subconscious mind fulfilling his desires, as well as attempting to escape them. Should Ash realize he's in a coma, he would wake up, but suffer brain damage. So he has to take down all his mental barriers one by one until he can come to grips with what he is and escape his coma.
This explains why he doesn't change much physically. Also, the worldwide socialism can be explained if you once again realize that this is a dream world; he thought up a safe system of government that would run smoothly and keeps the world going allowing his adventures to work like they do. It also explains a few other things, such as how a child can go off on his own in a world full of dangerous untamed animals, and why every Pokémon center has the same exact nurse. Joy and Jenny he knew from his hometown, and they act as a safety net or anchor, allowing him to feel safe no matter where he goes. The professors, like the Joy's and Jenny's represent stability, and ash's ideals. This is why Gary became a professor. It's also the reason that every time he enters a new region, virtually no one has heard of him, despite his conquests, and why Giovanni leads Team Rocket. How could Paul, the rival of the Sinnoh area, not know of someone who has placed in at least the top 16 of all three leagues and has destroyed the Orange league and Battle Frontier?
Ash’s travelling partners are actually aspects of himself he can enjoy, but doesn't like to associate with himself. Team Rocket are his qualities that he deems "negative", but is coming to terms with. Jesse and James want to appease Giovanni, Ash's Father. Meowth especially wants to appease him because he remembers the good times with Giovanni. This Places meowth in a category known as ash's (corrupted) innocence, and another fragment of ash's humanity. If you note that meowth can speak this quickly becomes apparent. In fact the whole reason for meowth's speech is so he can help Ash accept Team rocket as part of himself eventually.
Brock is Ash's repressed sexuality. He fell into the coma a virgin and needed an outlet for his growing sexual frustrations. Since he can never experience sex, Brock must never succeed. Brock is a projection of his sexuality, and is constantly shot down because Ash could never “know” sex. Brock isn't just Ash's latent sexuality, he's also his fatherly instincts, neither of which Ash can come to terms with. Brock leaves his siblings to "journey" with Ash. because Ash can't cope with having that much responsibility, much as his foray with a real relationship ends on mysterious terms. Ash just cannot handle commitment at his mental level. Brock's Stay with professor Ivy was an.attempt to outright suppress his sexuality. You'll notice that James got much more dialogue in this part of the series, as well as getting more touchy feel-y with his pokemon and getting most of his backstory. Ash didn't enjoy this much, hence the reasons Brock comes back all horrified, and refuses to speak about it. (ash's subconscious was repressing him at the time, so other than a general feeling of dread he has no idea of what went on then.) This is also why Brock keeps coming back to the series....Usually AFTER Ash meets a new girl aspect of himself.Misty is an image that Ash had of a girl. This is why she plays so prevalently in the series but is ultimately unattainable because he never really knew her before the coma. Likely the one that helped get him to a hospital. I have a theory in line with this: Since Misty was his initial love interest (if only subconsciously), he needed her to reach a level of womanhood. He felt that people could only have relationships when they've matured. But in practice, it turned out he couldn't cope with it and just wanted the normal, pushy, arrogant Misty he knew, and wouldn't let her keep Togepi anymore.
Misty is Ash's first attempt at a girl he could love, however, being a girl from the real world, all he really he knew of her was her anger, as a result she ended up quite hot headed in his mind. Constantly berating his sexuality, but eventually mellowing out until she had faded into the background. This was also traumatizing to him, being attached to it. Since then, the thought of anyone around him maturing to adulthood has been blocked, and anyone who shows signs of it will quickly end up leaving for another, more naive fill-in.
Max came with May, she played the Id with great aspirations, and he played the sensible Ego that "Session". They worked for a little while but Ash, being a teenager, eventually had his sexuality had to come back into play. He kept reinventing himself and eventually wrote new aspects, but his mind slowly brought back the old ones as a crutch to make the transition easier.
Dawn is Ash giving himself a chance to love. since he already established Misty as someone he's not likely to go anywhere with, he created a new super female, one that was more like him, and less violent all the time. (One will note that both May and Misty had no tolerance for Brock whatsoever whereas dawn seems to try and shrug it off.) .

I would like to remind you all that this article was not written by me. I do however, agree with some parts of the theories, yet disagree with others.
What do you guys think??

On an off note Sum has earned the title of Crazy driver, after nearly colliding with Vu's car while reversing on a main road.
