Gunpla Build Session

Thursday, October 28, 2010 KOALA 0 comments
Just adding more onto Sums post about last sunday's Gunpla group build session.

From Gunpla
From Gunpla

pretty much everything layed out on the floor to build.

PG Strike for Tim, PG 00 for Sum, and MG Ex-S for me.

From Gunpla
For those of you who have no interest in gunpla, i can assure you now that we do other "fun" things aswell.

Such as watching Sum eat the following
From General
On the packaging, it claimed to be a drink with "coconut fibre"
These little white cubes were very chewy, almost like bitting into rubber, and had a very strange taste.
Among the strange experimental foods and drinks which we try, this would have easily made it into the top 3, along with Curry ramune (AKA Ball Sweat Juice) and those little sweet ball cakes.

After our brake, moving back to gunpla.

Part of the reason why I bought the ex-s was to pose along with my Z+booster.

In the picture above, i also equipped the Z+ with the Ex-s beam smart gun.
For those wondering about the differences between the MG Beam smart gun and the GFF, heres a pic. Theres more detail on the GFF version, although it is slightly smaller.

Plamo Updates

The lastest addition to our gunpla collection.
MG Strike Freedom, Full Burst edition.
Yes, this has been sitting around in my room for over a year before I finally got the motivation to build it. As for the MG Destiny, well....thats still in the box....

From Gunpla
And right after i finish this, Bandai decides to anounce the PG Strike Freedom kit. Just my luck isnt it???

Another kit which I have been working on, was the Genobreaker.
From Gunpla

Now a couple of weeks ago, having recieved our pay cheques, Sum and I decided to go and splurge.
He decided on getting the Perfect Grade Strike, while I set my eyes on the Gundam Fix Figuration Metal Composit Z Plus Booster.
However, I can say that we have some of the worst possible luck. Uppon arriving at hobbyco, all PG Strikes were sold out, and they only had the red version of the GFFMC Z plus.
If this was Sum, im sure it wouldnt be too much of a problem, since it would just be another collection to his red army.
However, having already gotten a very red kit recently, (Yes, the Geno Breaker is VERY red), I decided that I wanted the blue one instead.
What made things worse was that GFFMCs are limited items, so it was probably impossible to get another shipment.
So I guess we had to look for alternatives.
After alot of consideration, Sum had a change of mind and decided to get the PG 00 Raiser instead.
I guess this was because ToFu has had a unbuilt PG strike sitting around for around 4 years now, and we could sooner or later get together for a massive group build.
I on the other hand, looked on Ebay, and found what i was after.
EMS shipping was expensive, but atleast it was fast.

Like most parcels from Japan, we get newspaper.

No nude girls in this one, but painting auction.

From Gunpla

Neatly bubble wrapped.

And then wrapped in another layer of thin paper.
From Gunpla
As for box size, its around the size of a MG, but alot deeper.
From Gunpla
And we go through the package contents.
From Gunpla
Bandai only bothered printing one version of the manual, featuring the Zplus Red.
From Gunpla
Layer One
Here we have the main Zeta Plus unit, wing binders, A1 and C1 tail binder, A1 and C1 shields, guns, beam sabers, etc...
From Gunpla
Layer 2
Here, we get most of the booster attachment parts to form the Z-Plus Bst
From Gunpla
Layer 3 consists of parts used to build the stand, and display base
From Gunpla
Like all other Ver Ka model, the Z+ comes with decal markings all over its body.
From Gunpla
From Gunpla
And if you think that Katoki missed an area or something, well you dont really have to worry. Cos bandai were generous enough to give you a whole sheet of extra warning decals
From Gunpla
137 decals all up

From Gunpla
Most of the GFFMC, appart from the Psyco gundam and Psyco gundam MKII, are 1-100 scale.
Heres comparison with my MG Zeta 2.0
From Gunpla
From Gunpla
This kit has 6 modes. Z+ A1 MS, Z+ A1 wave rider, Z+ C1 MS, Z+ C1 waver rider, Z+ C1 Booster MS, Z+ C1 Booster waver rider.
I normally prefer to have it in Booste Waver rider form. Looks like a flying tank ^^

Zeta Gerwalk // Archer Zeta

Wednesday, May 20, 2009 KOALA 2 comments
After watching macross, i became rather interested in a valkyrie's Gerwalk (Ground Effective Reinforcement of Winged Armament with Locomotive Knee-joint) mode concept. After some thinking, I began wondering whether i could apply the same concept to a transformable mobile suit from Gundam. After some heated debates with TOfu, who claimed gerwalk was not achievable with the Zeta Gundam, i decided to do a little experiments with the mastergrade kit.

From Gunpla

At first, I tried using the old Zeta version 1 master grade, which was not such a good idea. Yes, from the picture above, gerwalk does seem to work, but because the Zeta's joints are as soft as melted cheese, the kit basically fell apart immediately after taking the shot.
So what were my alternatives? I did not want to lose in my debate, yet I did not have any solid proof that the Zeta could indeed go into Gerwalk mode. Then my Zeta 2.0 arrived, allowing me to prove my theory.
I placed picutres of the VF25 so those who have no Gundam/Macross knowledge can still get a general understanding

It is generally assumed that a Gundam can assume the battroid form so no explaination needed. You may also note that Zeta is one of the few MG's that can kneel properly, becuase it has an unrestricted pelvic joint.

The Zeta Gundam is also one of the few mobile suits that can fully transforom into a high sppeed fighter

So here comes the real question. Would the MG Zeta 2.0 be able to achieve Gerwalk mode, yet still be posable and not fall apart with the slightest touch?

Well, i guess the pictures can speak for themselves. I should note though, that i did have to swap the wings around. Due to the Zeta 2.0's simplified yet improved wing joint, it is no longer able to extend the wing binders out like the version one. However, unlike the version one, this Gerwalk mode is very sturdy, and would not fall apart

So yeah. Battroid, Fighter and Gerwalk all in one super glossy Bandai Mastgrade. What more can Zeta fans ask for??
Perhaps they could have given the 2.0 some landing gear. As you can see in the following pic, I had to recylce them from the first Zeta MG, but they do fit after a little bit of modifying.

From Gunpla

Another fun idea also came to mind. Originally i was thinking of constructing a booster system for the Zeta like the one seen in Gundam Evolve. Using spare parts from a MG ZZ, it ended up looking more like the archer arios from 00

From Misc

Just for laughs ^^ Heres how archer arios actually looks like

And here's how my Zeta turned out
