Approaching mid-semester, I find myself once again posting on this blog. Nothing much has changed, or maybe that's just the way memory works - gradual changes integrate deceptively into one's mind-frame and consequently they are no longer viewed as changes. Anything too radical and it would have to a be ghost-in-the-shell-like combination of personalities.
But why should one trust their memories? If they are what define us then definitely our personalities are built on lies and sugar-coating, underneath which the id secretly plans to obtain its next source of euphoric gratification.
Unless we are born with a personality. That would be interesting. R-rated babies.
OK, now my music player has shifted to 5:15 by The Who, so my trail of thought has been lost. Not like it was going anywhere.

Optical pine cones
withdrawing from all kinds
of insomnia
returning with confidence
on shores unnoticed by
those who do not seek them.
I wish you could see it for yourself

Structure is only sought by the masses. When you are not an outlier, being part of the system is something that is reluctantly accepted but later openly applauded.
When you are not an outlier, being out of the system is something that is reluctantly accepted but later openly applauded.

Just stating the obvious. What else is there to say?

I'd say that personalities are shaped/built by a number of aspects, namely- important people in your life with whom you have regular contact, life experience, genetic makeup (to some extent), cultural influences, etc. Memories can be retained but will often be defeated in their effect on shaping personality by newer experiences/influences- which would explain why people change personality.

And regarding being in/out of the system- this reflects on people's resistance to change, and the later applause could signify being comfortable with a new norm :P

interesting concepts
