Evangelion 1.11 !

KOALA 3 comments
Finally, Thora has released the first Evangelion rebuild movie in 1080p!
Im assuming most of you have atleast heard about evangelion, if not watched the series and movies aswell.
Eva 1.0 was first released in Japanese theatres in 2007 and in 2008, it was also available to watch during the Sydney Japanese Film Festival which i suspect most of you would have missed aswell.
I've looked around for the Eva 1.01 dvd release but they were either bad quality, giantic iso rips, or had dodgy subs.
Hence i am so excited about the 1.11 bluray, as it seems to be the best thing available out there, appart from size. Well, 7.9 gigs is acceptable i guess, considering some of the dvd rips out there are around 6.9 gigs, and this is in full hd aswell. I dont know whether you guys think its worth it or not, but this is definately gonna be replacing my dodgy 1.0 camera recording.
Heres some 720p pics to show how good quality its gonna be (1080 is gonna be even better!)

SD Exia Repair Part II

Friday, June 5, 2009 KOALA 4 comments
Geh.....forced to go back to picas.
Luckily, this time i've backup up all the setting from my computer, so the online albums havent been affected.
As you may have noticed, all the thumbnails from old albums are now gone.
As i mentioned before, the pics are all in the new album and still available for viewing

Well, worked a bit more on the Exia
To increase some mobility, the arm had to be sliced appart and a polycap inserted to create an elbow joint

From Gunpla

IT BENDS 80DEGREES!!!!!
A GIANT improvement from 0 ^^

From Gunpla

Next up was the front and rear skirt armour
Pretty much just divided the front skirt in half, then removed one side
For the rear, had to saw off both beamsabers, and sand back a lil.

From Gunpla

The right leg was a bit more challenging. The photo was a bit too bright so cant tell where the expoxy and plastic meet. Anyways, basically just removed the ankle guard and knee cap, filled up the hole, then moulded a scratch knee. Hopefully it would look better after painting.

From Gunpla

The damaged gn sword. Im still not too happy about how it looks at the moment.
Any suggestions on how to improve???
From Gunpla

Now where what would Exia Repair be without the cloak??
Just got some old cloth, tore it up, then flamed it a bit.
To make the cloth a bit more posable, i inserted some bendy wires into it so it would hold some shape.
From Gunpla

Tofu complained about the terminator eye being too big.
Well, this is an SD after all, and sd's have big eyes, so naturally the R1's right eye replacement should be big aswell ^^

Overall, reasonably happy with how this turned out.
Still have some things to work on, like removing left ankle guard, removingbeam sabres from shoulders, and alot of painting.

Exia Repair!! Part 1

Thursday, June 4, 2009 KOALA 0 comments
Hi to all those who read this blog!
For the past few days, i have formatted my computer and installed Windows 7 build 7137 (slightly newer than the RC)
Win7 is scheduled for October 22nd release for those who plan on getting it.
My thoughts about the new OS?? ITS BRILLIANT!!!!
It runs much faster than Vista (startup times being under 2 minutes), and much more stable too
Havent recieved any explorer crashes or BSODs yet so far.
As expected with new hardware being rolled onto the market, Win7 has raised the standards for the Windows Experience Rating, with the maximum score now being 7.9
My current comp now rates at 5.5 (used to be 5.9 on vista), but im still pretty happy with that.
Unfortunately, formatting everything meant that my picasa albums gets kinda screwed up, cos its uploading duplicates onto the web album. I've deleted the old albums, but the thumbnails from my older posts still exist for now.
If you want to view larger versions of older files, just look for them in the new album.

Moving onto the main point of todays blog article
SD Exia Repair!!
When i saw that the SD Exia R2 scheuled for August release and came with both Original AND R2 parts, I decided that i would do something cool with my current exia.
My thoughts about this kit?
In terms of mobility, it is VERY limited. Im suprised to see bandai improve so much in their HG and MG lines, yet go backwards in their SD lines. However, I suppose they compensate by throwing in some nice details.

From Gunpla

The word "GUNDAM" moulded above the sensor, just like in the anime.

Prolly the most noticable difference between the Exia and the Exia Repair is the damaged head. After its duel with the GN Flag, the exia's head was reattached, but the right eye remains gutted, and Setsuna fits a Tierren eye into it instead, hence the red glow.

To make the Exia repair, the first step was to find pieces that would act as the tierren eye.

From Gunpla

After looking around a bit in my box containing spare parts, i stumbeled accross this.

From Gunpla

After getting it all wired up, tested with a couple of LR43's
Unfortunately, i only had a green LED. So just got a dab of Red paint and covered it.
The result is yellow light...
Ohwells, i suppse that'll have to do for now until i find a red led that can fit.

Next is planning how to hollow out the headto fit the LED unit

From Gunpla

Luckily, as with most sd's, there arent many pieces for the head, so that makes modding much easier.

From Gunpla

all the coloured parts had to go

So after half an hours worth of cutting, I finally managed to hollow out the area neccessary to fit in the LED

From Gunpla

Took a bit of effort to get it to fit in, but atleast it fits ^^

Well, thats about it for today
Would continue to work on this over the next few weeks. Still figuring out how to give this thing a bit more mobilty.

Seed 1:100's

Sunday, May 31, 2009 KOALA 0 comments
Well, while i was patiently waiting for my computer to scan through 1.75 terabytes of data, I decided to unpak some of kits their boxes and display them on the blog.
And since Tim started off the previous post with a Seed SD, i decided to show some of my seed 1:100's.

First off, the Astray Blue Frame 2nd L

From Gunpla
I've always had the idea that - the bigger the weapon, the better XD
The Blue Frame 2nd L tactical arms is probably the 2nd largest physical blade used by any mobile suit in gundam history (even bigger than the 00 seven sword config GN Buster sword mkII, though being dwarfed by the 150meter Gerbera Straight used by the Powered Red Frame)

From Gunpla
The sword itself is so heavy that holding it up like this is impossible without extra aid.

From Gunpla
The only way to hold the sword unassisted is to put it over one shoulder

From Gunpla
Although the Blue Frame 2nd is supposed to come with 6 Armor Schneider knives, we only get 4 in this kit
2 hand held, and one in each toe. The heel blades were not included.

From Gunpla
From Gunpla
As with most other 1:100's from the seed line, posing of the blue frame is kinda limited. As you can see, its not designed for air poses.
From Gunpla
WINGS!!!!

From Gunpla
Fortunately, they did give the Blue frame enough mobility so it can kneel while posing with the tactical arms in gattling mode

From Gunpla
And to finish off the astray, an innovative weapon!
The hilt of the tactical arms sword can become the base of a beam saber ^^

Next up is the 1:100 Buster Gundam

From Gunpla
The buster was a decent kit
It has similar joints as Astray so mobility is around the same (slighly better as demonstrated later)
However, posing is still rather limited

From Gunpla
yeah, blurry picture.....i know....cbb retaking it...

From Gunpla
From Gunpla
More pics...
From Gunpla
And Finally.....
Unlike the Astray, the Buster is relatively light weight, and balanced. Thus, its able to do poses like this and still keep balance.
