4pak is no dead ! it was just in a volutarily induced coma (:

so i made an affogato and even better i made a video of making an affogato ! its the first time ive filmed my presso but i have used it weekly for the last 2 months as my budget substitute for a traditional espresso machine (:

anyways, as u can see it still needs a bit of work, in regards to grinding and tamping but at least the coffee is beautiful and delicious !

Tonkotsu - If it aint been cooked for 7 days, its not worth eatn

Friday, September 25, 2009 KOALA 8 comments
Well well, operation "pink" in progress. I can't believe that 20 people actually voted for pink. Hey, dont look at me, i voted for white.
Shiro ZAKU FTW!!!!

Well, onto the main focus of todays post.
Godly tonkotsu.
For those who dont know what tonkotsu is, basically, its a pork bone broth that has to be cooked for a LONG LONG time. High in fats and collagen, it isnt exactly the most healthiest of foods out there..but hey, who really cares. Aslong as its tasty right??
So what makes the tonkotsu at Gumshara so good that we call it "Godly"? Well, it really is hard to explain, but to give you guys a general idea, if you were willing to go and eat a bowl of $10+ ramen with a food power level of 9000+ (a large big mac meal is just 2000) three times within the same week, then its pretty safe to say that that food is either Godly, or just plain addictive.
In the case of the food from Gumshara, it would be probably be a mixture of both.
So that day, we set our alarms to go off at 8:30am, just so that we would not be late for our meal.
Arriving at 10:30, we were quite shocked when they told us that they would not be open until 11:30 (yes it takes them over an hour to prepare the stuff. slicing meat, eggs, etc)
So with an hour to burn, we decided to bum around and came across a coffee shop, which appeared to be the illegitimate love child of Starbucks, and Gloria Jeans.

Its name was Tom n Toms

After taking photos of their shop, we did feel slighly guilty about it, so we went in to buy something. Tim ordering something

From General
Overall decoration wasnt too bad. Atleast they had wifi

From General

From General
They had awesome toilet doors though

From General
As for the coffee itself....

Somehow tasted like something that came out of a can....

So with our 1hr coffee break over, it was time to get down to some serious business.

From General
When we arrived, they still weren't ready.

From General
Sum seemed to be despair, so we took a few photos of their shop while we waited.

Soon, more and more people arrived
Luckily, we were first in line

From General
Pork Spare Rib ramen (only 10 made per day) with all toppings X3!!!
The 10 per day thing was probably the main thing that attracted us to try. And because we knew that there was limited production, thus we got there early, and it seemed to have paid off.

From General
Pork Spare Rib ramen - $13 + All topping $6.50
Thats almost 20bux for this bowl of tonkotsu.

From General
But ITS WORTH IT!!! I know its hard to tell from the photos, but soup here is the magic element.
Its REALLY thick!

From General

And here we are, digging into the spare ribs.

From General
Underneith that crispy skin is a layer of fat. Some may be put off by this, but if you were THAT concerned about your diet, you wouldnt be eating this godly bowl of tonkotsu to begin with.

From General
They also give you quite a generous serve of ramen. Photo taken while tim was half way done.

From General
The last and BEST part of all
THE SOUP!!!

From General
ITs THICK, its RICH, and its TASTY
Wanna know the reason why?
120kg of pork bones is used every day to make this broth, and it is all boiled down for 7 days before ready to serve.

Now, i have a message to those self claim "Food Bloggers" out there who've reviewed Gumshara.
SHAME ON YOU!!!
So far after reading many of your articles, none of you have have managed to finish that one bowl of Ramen.
Not only is it a waste of food, but its also sign of disrespect for the chef.
Ofcourse, we always show our appreciation for good food and would always finish.

Tim left a noodle behind

From General
After drinking all that broth in one go, its could you a bit of a head ache.

From General
But in the end, its always worth it.
After this, i can easily conclude that us 3 have already gained a power level of 9000+

The upcomming challenge is to visit On Ramen and Gumshara on the same day!
Maybe with enough training, we might be able to 2 bowls XD (maybe im aiming a bit too high) ^^
