Ok so heres the next part of the review and build up. For those following my progress I think you'll be as excited as I am. So without further ado lets dive in!

Immediately after the head is the neck. Simple affair with plenty of details and the first use of the chrome gold parts which are the hydraulics and the H shaped part is made from soft vinyl which are the mesh piping we'll see throughout the kit.
From Onderon's gallery

We are starting to see the streamlining of the Saber Tigers body already with the neck which tapers to the base and curves inwards at the throat.

The torso which is the largest section of the kit is composed of 55 parts. The picture I took is missing about 25 pieces cos I'm an idiot and by the time I realised my mistake it was too late to fix (read: too lazy.
From Onderon's gallery

For something made of so many smaller parts it is remarkably strong and here we can see the first example of moving hydraulics in the kit which slide in and out as the shoulder joints move. Ignore the giant gap in the middle as that's where the zoid core fits and we'll get to that in a sec.

Once the torso is put together it resembles something out of a tank with its bulk but the curvatures of the armor lends it the sleekness and rounds off the rough edges. Despite what the pictures look like it is much rounded in person and pictures just don't do it justice.

Here is the zoid core which I have to apologize for forgetting to take a pic of the parts but theres about 7 parts in total including the red orb.
From Onderon's gallery

Opens up so the core can be removed and played around with?
From Onderon's gallery

Here's whats been done so far.
From Onderon's gallery

Although its too dark I think it captures the Saber Tigers aggressiveness perfectly despite it being an amputee atm.

I also want to mention that the armor on the side of the torso can also shift around depending on shoulder movement.

I'll leave you guys here for now so sit tight for the next part!

Random Short Story

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 Gaze 2 comments
Been awhile since i last posted, generally i have not much to contribute to the world of gunpla, however this idea occured to me recently so here goes.

This is gonna be a very wordy post, with no pretty pictures, read or don't read its really up to you lol, its a rather abstract and bleak short story.

hope you enjoy :p

The dull hazy sun gently washed over the landscape, harshly bearing down upon the figures toiling on it. A soft glow surrounds beautiful spires and majestic mounds as the reflected sunlight creates a masterpiece out of the scrap metals in this waste dump. Mesmerised momentarily by the sight, the girl is roused from reverie by the overseer's harsh words, and returned to work.

A waste deposit site, where waste are sorted into categories and recycled, is run by slave androids and artificial humans, some created for this purpose, some for other chores and previous owners, who abandoned them. They are, like the waste they sort, recycled. This place is where she spent every day of her life, where her memories extended to, though she can recall faint outlines and impressions, of warmth and love and family. These memories too are slipping away as she lost count of how many years she has spent in this labour camp.

She had not shared these memories with anyone, after all it was unprecedented for an artificial human to have childhood memories let alone such things as childhoods, for they came into existence as able bodied young adults. It would brand her as odd should she let others know, it always seemed insignificant and uncertain, just like her existence.

She was not confident, rarely did she speak to her peers, indeed most of them were similar, and even more infrequently did she speak to her superiors. However, she was well educated, even possessing the ability to read and possibly write, though she never had the chance to use that skill. Occasionally she would find remains of text among the waste, these she would stash way and read at opportune times. During the night before she drifted off to sleep was the time she gets to spend with her treasures.

In her hovel amidst the other slaves she travelled the world, transcending space and even time. Reading by solely the moonlight, she learnt of ages past, the brutality of the crusades, a bloody war between men with conflicting beliefs, unholy deeds committed in a holy name. She read of great musicians, living ordinary lives yet also immortalised in beautiful art that resonated throughout the world for centuries to come. None of which were appreciated anymore, so she could only imagine their sounds. She was fascinated by economy, inflation, depression, lack of jobs, a war that was fought not with weapons but wealth, all the more dangerous. She was horrified at the cruelty the Jews endured at the hands of Hitler during the Second World War, every page she read she learnt more of mankind's true identity and flaws. She empathised towards the humans enslaved by sentient machines and advanced AI, being used as an energy source as they lived in illusions. She lived in royal castles that were rightfully hers by blood, rescued at every turn by a handsome nameless prince, the beauty of love. Unable to distinguish between truth and fiction, she absorbed it all with a childlike purity and innocence, believing everything. She would shed tears of joy and sadness, and cry herself to sleep, not out of desire but sheer exhaustion from the day's labour, and she would dream, where she lived in fantastic lands, free of the bonds of slavery, and sometimes even with her family from her faint memories. She wished she was born in one of her stories instead.

No one paid her any heed, even the slaves frowned upon her treasures, books they called it with distaste, was long replaced technology, information record and storage was too inefficient in books, they said. This suited her well, as they left her possessions alone. However, books of faraway and unknown lands weren't the only things she read, recent issues and opinions regarding artificial humans and android creation and slavery were abundant. Many voices spoke against it, deeming it immoral and unethical, arguing for the rights of the oppressed, however it was undeniable their usefulness and their futures appeared bleak. True enough, as time progressed fewer voices existed, replaced by other issues, such as recycling and resources of the planet, migration to another planet would be costly and should be avoided, hence employing the slaves for recycling quieted down the remaining spokespeople.

These did not elicit much of an emotional response in her, instead she impassively registered the articles that spelled her doom, she had long accepted her fate and admitted defeat, on the contrary, she felt detached and distant from these articles and closer and more relevant with her treasured books. She had read of the ancient Egyptians, whom had used slaves much as the way she is working, to construct monuments of awe and wonderfulness, the pyramids. There was much suffering and cruelty inflicted upon the slaves, however it would have been impossible to create pyramids of such magnitude without slaves. Similarly she concede her fate as one of the oppressed who's suffering leads to greatness.

Through this similarity, she also discovered irony, that the situation she was in, was just simply a repetition of what took place millennia ago, that after all of mankind's progression and development, they have only been going around in circles, enhancing one aspect of their life while deteriorating another.

In a few years time, this girl who's name no one remembers will die in the labour camp, her frail body reaching its limit, long deserted by her spirit and hope, her soul could no longer withstand the pressure and bleakness. An insignificant passing to all, for none knew about her, none knew of the injustice she endured as a human being in a slave labour camp, save herself, who had realised she did not belong there, but also understood none of the other beings with consciousness deserved to be there either. And thus she endured, and passed, unnoticed into oblivion, the one who knew mankind best, looked into the past, experienced the present and understood what they were becoming, the last with the potential to rescue them from their doom.

Saber Tiger WIP Part 1: Head

Onderon 0 comments
Ok ok, I know that I said I'll start the WIP on Sunday but I'm weak so forgive me =P To make up for it I'll stage the build into parts and starting with just the head today.

I couldn't be bothered with taking a picture of all the parts pre-assembly so you'll have to take my word for it when I say there are 30 parts just for this section. Pretty big if I must say so myself.

First up is the canopy which is comprised of only 3 parts and 1 of the 2 transparent parts of this kit.
From Onderon's gallery

The 'skull' is fairly straight forward a solid construction and a really nifty feature is the dashboard piece which is heaps detailed.
From Onderon's gallery
From Onderon's gallery

Here we have the zoids namesake. The teeth are actually more of a creamy color than white and the only problem here was the smallest grey piece on the left which didn't fit properly so I had to bust out the hobby knife and make it fit lawl.
From Onderon's gallery

...and believe me when I say that the teeth are sharp
From Onderon's gallery

Finally some semblance as to what it should look like. The cheeks each are made up of 6 parts and here we also see the 'scruff' which is also molded in the reddy orange
From Onderon's gallery

Here is what the head looks like when completed and it is breathtaking. The red armor are loaded with minute details and it captures the fierceness of an over grown mecha tiger.
From Onderon's gallery

Nom nom nom nom nom...
From Onderon's gallery

I forgot to mention that the part count does not include the pilot cos I think its kind of lame to stick one in but if u must know the bugger consists of 4 parts torso legs and each arm.

Stay Tuned for more!

Saber Tiger

Monday, August 3, 2009 Onderon 0 comments
After many months of drooling and temptation I've finally got my hands on the 1/72 HMM Saber Tiger by Kotobukiya. As some of you may know this would be my second foray into these beautiful kits. If the Cannon Tortoise was any indication then I wont be disappointed.

First off, the box art is amazing. It effortlessly captures the aggressiveness and grace of the zoid. Just one look and you know the Tiger means bussiness.
From Onderon's gallery

Despite what Tofu says about the box being the size of a 1/144 I think the following picture gives us a sense of how immense the kit is.
From Onderon's gallery

I'm impressed with the amount of runners, with a staggering 32 runners, the last MG i built being the Sinanju only had around 23 and only topped by the MG EX-S at 40+.

Here are scans of the front and back of the manuals with what the Saber Tiger would look like when complete (although it is heavily painted with some moderate shading) and it certainly does not lack in the details department.

This is probably my favourite page out the manual. Nothing beats kickass lineart imo.
From Onderon's gallery

And to round off this part of the preview here's a close up of one of the armor runners. The shade of red/orange is almost perfect although a certain somebody will probably complain about the picture being too dark but what the hey the light in my room sucks so tough luck.

Stay tuned with a proper WIP by Sunday.

Mg unicorn wip

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 T0fu 2 comments
after a shitty week of college i've sunk back into modelling mode.

heres a peek of things to come !

i am happy with the kit, i think it is a cleverly designed MG for builders and trophy modellers that oozes in detail and style, it reallly isnt suited for people who play with their kits or like dynamic poses.

anyways thats all ill prolly do on it for this week! but heres a look at what has arrived !

<: you can expect updates soon ! ~

GUNDAM

KOALA 0 comments
Yes, finally!
I've got my first Gundam today!!!
The SD RX-78-2 30th Anniversary model
After spending a few hours in hobby co with Tofu, i decided to resist from buying the Avalanche Exia, and to get it shipped from japan instead. After that, we went to capital square and i chose to get the sd ^^
Anyways, heres a few pics for starters.

Also managed to pick up a pair of these at hobbyco for 12bux
Has a pair of dragons moulded onto the handles

From Gunpla

Runners
From Gunpla

Head consists of 6 pieces and a polycap
From Gunpla

Upper torso
Again, 6 pieces but with 3 polycaps

More to come SOON

AND GUESS WHATS ARRIVED IN THE MAIL TODAY???? OO RAISER COMMING UP SOON!!!!!

EDIT:
Ok so picking up where i left off

From Gunpla

Bottom half of the torso.
Im quite glad that bandai was nice enough to mould the yellow onto separate pieces instead of needing to paint on
From Gunpla

After having to deal with the SD Exia's horrible arms, im quite glad to go back to these older designs with a elbow joint
From Gunpla

The feet. Very standard for SDs like this. Would require alot of paint as usual.
From Gunpla

Weapons...a very standard set. Beam rifle, beam saber, and shield. Single colour mould for the shield. Its a SD afterall, so cant complain too much though it would have been better if they moulded in white instead of grey. Its nice how the scope comes in a separate piece, and can swivel when assembled.

From Gunpla

And the final thing put together.
From Gunpla

From Gunpla

For such a standard SD, theres nothing particularly special about posing abilities. None the less, it still is a RX78, and that itself is good enough ^^

From Gunpla

And as usual, with most of bandai's sd, the majority of the polycaps are unused, and would be added to the pile of spares.

Well, now i guess i'll need to start on painting when i have more time.
Other works soon to come up would be the SD 00 raiser, along with the 1:144 HG, which would be cannibalised by the sd for its superior accessories.

zombie power ! ~

Yo ! ~ long time no see peoples! i bet our dear lovers followers thought 4pakisdead is dead, but fear not our beloved following! for you cannot kill that which is already dead! Moving on, the reason for our recent lack of activity is because we,the blog team, have been overwhelmed with external commitmets ! (with things that dont start with G [chix starts with c you smug motherfuckers])

Since break has begun t0fu has unburied his social life and ressurrected a strain of pontiac fever, cnc has gotten an illegal job and onderon was deported banned from japan. All of this has meant we havent has as much time to work on our beloved hobbies and onderons's japan report has been delayed. That doesnt mean we havent been busy planning though! cnc and onderon have secured 2 MG EXIA Ignition modes and the kotobukiya sabretiger and chungs SD 00 are in the mail. i also have a huge backlog of the 1/72 armored ozma and the MG unicorn. I'll prolly start the unicorn it when my course begins, timewasting is awesome. Anyways onto the future.
